How to make an accommodation reservation for postgraduate students in the Engineering Campus?
postgraduate students who wish to stay at Desasiswa Jaya Lembaran Utama can email rafiqazri.abdulrahim@usm.m or hac_eng@usm.m to make accommodation reservations.
Can students choose a specific room and level?
Room selection is based on current availability, new students applying for accommodation will be placed based on availability as deemed appropriate by the administration.
Where can hostel registration be made and what are the operation hours for HAC Office?
Accommodation registration for male students can be made at the HAC Satellite Office located in Desasiswa Utama while registration for female students can be made at the HAC Office located on Level 1, Cafeteria Lembaran.
HAC office hours are from Monday to Friday (except public holidays), from 8.10am to 5.10pm. Students are advised to register during office hours.
What are the room rates for postgraduate students?
The room rate for male students is RM5.00/day for a Double Room, while the room rate for female students is RM5.00/day for a Double Room and RM6.00 for a Single Room.
What are the documents needed for hostel registration?
The documents required for postgraduate student registration are an Offer Letter from USM, a Registration Letter from IPS, a passport-sized photograph, and a 3-month deposit guarantee.
Can accommodation be provided for students that have received offer letter from USM but not yet registered with IPS?
Accommodation will be provided if there are still vacancies in the hostel. The non-student rate is RM20/day for a double room and RM40/day for a single room.
What facilities are available at the postgrad hostel?
The postgrad male student accommodation is a 3-Room Apartment concept and there are 2 beds for each room with bathroom unsuited. Each student has a bed, study desk, chair and ceiling fan. Inside each apartment there is a living room, utility room and a sink. The facilities in the hostel include a Laundry Room, Discussion Room, Pantry, Mini Gym, Hangout Space, Surau and Futsal Court.
Accommodation for postgrad female students is a dormitory concept, each room has a bed, study table, chair, ceiling fan with a comfortable space in the room. Facilities in the female student dormitory include a Laundry Room, Lounge, Study Room, Pantry, Hangout Space and a prayer hall.
Are students allowed to bring electrical appliances into their room?
According to Universiti Sains Malaysia (Desasiswa) Rules 2021- Electrical equipment such as laptops, printers, water heaters and mobile phone chargers are ALLOWED to be brought into the room, but OTHER electrical equipment is PROHIBITED.
Are students allowed to cook in the room?
There is a refrigerator, induction cooker, microwave in the pantry for heating food and drinks. However, students are not allowed to cook in the room, especially using flame to avoid short circuits in the room and causing fire in the dormitory. Referring to the Universiti Sains Malaysia (Desasiswa) Rules 2021 - students who violate the rules will be charged RM50.
Undergraduate Students
How do first-year students wish to apply for accommodation at Desasiswa?
First year students are automatically given accommodation at Desasiswa. If first-year students choose to stay off-campus, students need to inform the HAC Office in writing, but during Minggu Siswa Lestari, first-year students are required to stay at Desasiswa to ensure attendance throughout the orientation period.
How do Senior students want to apply for accommodation at Desasiswa?
Senior students who wish to stay at Desasiswa for the upcoming academic session must apply for hostel placement through the system when the announcement is made at the end of semester 2.
Students are advised to collect as many MYCSD points as possible to qualify for Desasiswa applications for the next academic session.
Do Automatic category students still need to apply for Desasiswa?
Yes, Automatic students MUST apply for Desasiswa if they want to stay at the hostel during the next academic session.
What are the criteria to automatically get accommodation at Desasiswa?
Automatic accommodation is given to the active members of MPP, MPDJLU, Palapes and Sportsmen during their active period. Students with disabilities are granted automatic accommodation for the entire period of study.
What if I want to apply for withdrawal after getting a placement in Desasiswa?
Students need to inform the HAC Office in writing and the room key MUST be returned to the HAC Office as soon as possible. Students need to ensure that the room is left in a clean condition.
How can I make the payment of Desasiswa fee?
The accommodation bill will be issued by the HAC to the Bursary to be charged to the student's account. Students need to pay via the Campusonline system. The amount to be paid is for the entire duration of the stay.
